Yet another cool, damp day, but it didn't stop us from climbing into our Kangoo and setting off for a highly touted restaurant not too far up the road from our villa. The centre of the village of Querenca, north of Loule, has been recently refurbished with a fresh layer of cobblestones paving the largo in front of the whitewashed church. The main door of the church is in the Manueline style, and has interesting carved faces at the upper corners of the door surround.
We had lunch at Restaurante de Querenca, chosen because of the good recommendations on Trip Advisor. They are well-deserved! The genial host made us feel very welcome, bestowing a kiss on my cheek when David told him I was a Trip Advisor contributor! We started with olives and mildly pickled sliced carrots and bakery bread, then enjoyed hot stews (Bryant-lamb, David and I-rabbit) and chicken curry for Jean. All were excellent, kept hot in the heavy pottery serving dishes. A dish of beans, carrots, and zucchini, flavoured with olives, Rosemary, and a bay leaf was to share. We divvied up a chocolate mousse for dessert. We may well return later this month for the wild boar stew and other featured specials.
A short shopping trip into Loule was spoiled only by a parking ticket which we have to figure out how to pay in the next few days. No plans for tomorrow yet, but the weather will decide what we'll do.
On Thursday the plan is to drive to Córdoba, Spain, where we've made reservations to stay overnight, returning here on Friday.
