North Carolina April 11-18, 2011

In addition to our trip into the mountains we took in two Charlotte museums (or properly, musea?). The new Mint Museum downtown is a sleek, modern building with lots of glass. Great light, but a bit hard and cold. We focused on the crafts collection of glass, wood, clay, and fiber. Then it was on to the Museum of the New South, which told the story of integration in No. Carolina beginning in the 1950's. A very moving site.

Some retail therapy provided a diversion before spending a day at the nearby Latta Plantation and the NC Raptor Center. Our times at home with the cats and E. and R's comfortable screened porch were relaxing and therapeutic, and we were able to catch up on each other's activities.

Great visit, and good time of year to enjoy some warm weather after a long winter.

North Carolina April 11-18, 2011

On the road again, first by driving to Massachusetts, then flying to Charlotte, NC, to visit with old friends. We ventured up into the Blue Ridge Mts., stopping first at Gastonia for fabric! Then on to Asheville via Chimney Rock. We stayed at a lovely B and B there, and spent a morning at the Grove Inn, enjoying their gift shop and lunch at their cafe. Then on to Mt. Mitchell and ultimately Boone.

Two trips planned!

March 12, 2011

Two trips upcoming for the travel geeks. The first, beginning April 10, will be to Charlotte, NC, to visit old friends, via Massachusetts where we'll get the plane south. We should return on the 19th or 20th of April. The second is over 6 months away, but we are very excited about the prospects of re-discovering China with a group of friends from NB in mid-late October. Stay-tuned!

Oct. 4 & 5, 2010-Pembroke ON-Grand Manan NB

The last two days of our trek were unremarkable. Weather was OK, getting through Montreal was easier than expected, thanks to Dan, our GPS voice, and the foliage through northern New England was dull, thanks to a hard rain the previous Saturday. No pictures, just text this time. Glad to be home!

Oct. 2, 2010-Ironwood MI - Sault Ste. Marie ON

Yesterday we crossed Minnesota and Wisconsin in the rain, and today we had drizzle and sun off and on. The wind off Lake Superior became quite strong in the afternoon, creating good-sized waves. The foliage was spectacular however, and it was nice to see some oranges and touches of red in addition to the yellow. We are back in Canada tonight in Sault Ste. Marie.....good to be back!

Thurs. Sept. 30 - Moose Jaw - Grand Forks ND

Yet more prairies today, but the "high spots" were going through Rugby, ND, the geographical center of North America, and seeing Devil's Lake, ND, which has been a recent news story on Yahoo. The lake has no outlet, so the water just rises until there is a lack of rain. Right now it is at very high levels because of the heavy rains this summer in the Midwest.

Wed., Sept. 29, 2010 Calgary-Moose Jaw SK

On our way back home today, after a wonderful visit with A, T, and little H. We hope to make it home in 7 days. Lovely, sunny day today for our drive from Calgary to Moose Jaw. More prairies!
