Italy! Finally. Part 1

Our plane travel wasn't all we wanted it to be in terms of comfort,(think sardines in a can), but each connection was made successfully, no hangups in Paris, and the taxi from the Florence Airport to our hotel was quick and inexpensive. What more can you ask for?

Our accommodations in Florence were fine....inexpensive, clean, and very near a city bus stop as well as a good restaurant. We were a 25 minute bus ride from the old city, but that meant less noise and more of a neighbourhood feel to that area of the city. On Saturday we traveled by bus to Siena with two of our tour-mates, a mother-daughter duo from Michigan, both very interested in fiber arts design, weaving, and spinning. We enjoyed Siena despite all its tourists. It was a lovely warm day, and we visited a flower market, the narrow medieval streets of the old town, and of course the huge Piazza del Campo in the center of the city. We availed ourselves of the many gelato shops, and oohed and aahed over the arches between buildings, the pedestrian streets, and the relaxed pace of a day on the town.
